BASIC TRAINING FOR OIL CHEMICAL TANKER GARGO OPERATIONS (BTOC)

Scope: This course covers the mandatory competences and the required knowledge, understanding and proficiencies prescribed in Section A-V/1-1, Table A-V/1-1-1of the STCW Code. This requires a total of 40 instructional hours.

Training outcomes: To meet the minimum standard of competence for all trainees assigned to shipboard duties as required in Section A-V/1-1 of the STCW Code as amended, this course is designed to enable the trainees to successfully demonstrate the competences on Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations. Specifically, at the end of the course the trainee must:

  1. Contribute to the safe cargo operation of oil and chemical tankers;
  2. Take precautions to prevent hazards;
  3. Apply occupational health and safety precautions and measures;
  4. Carry out fire-fighting operations;
  5. Respond to emergencies; and
  6. Take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment from the release of oil or chemicals.
